1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Coat 24 mini muffin cups with cooking spray.
2. To make topping, with your fingertips, combine 1 Tbsp flour, brown sugar and butter in a small bowl until crumbly; stir in oats and set aside.
3. To make muffins, in a large bowl, combine 3/4 c all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and allspice; stir in currants.
4. In a medium bowl, whisk together egg, applesauce, milk, granulated sugar, oil and vanilla extract until blended. Stir applesauce mixture into flour mixture just until blended.

I used the recipe with and without the topping. I used Fuji and Braeburn apples, and they were both good. This is my husbands favorite muffin. I gave it 4 stars because the topping is really messy to clean up after it over flowed the pan. This recipe made 12 standard muffins. This is now my standard apple muffin recipe.
