2 hours ago Preheat the oven to 230 degrees centigrade. When ready to bake, slash the top of the dough and dust with a little extra flour. Place into the oven

1. Add flour and sugar to a large bowl, place the salt one side of the bowl and the yeast the other side of the bowl. The reason I do this, is that salt can kill yeast, so to place it away from each other initially helps. Add enough water and mix to form a soft dough.
2. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for up to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If using my mixer with dough hook, I also knead for ten minutes.
3. Place the dough in a bowl which has been greased lightly with olive oil inside. Place the dough inside and then cover it with cling film tightly. This stops a skin developing on the dough. Leave in a warm place to rise until it has doubled in size which may take around an hour. If your house is cold it can take up to three hours! Remove the dough onto a floured surface and knock back the air. Place in a 900 g loaf tin, cover with a big loose bag and let it prove a little longer for half an hour sometimes longer depending on the heat of your home. Don’t put in a deliberately hot place though, as that can affect the dough. Preheat the oven to 230 degrees centigrade.
4. When ready to bake, slash the top of the dough and dust with a little extra flour. Place into the oven for around 15 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 200 degrees centigrade and cook for a further 20 minutes. Check that it is cooked by tipping the loaf out of the tin and tapping the bottom, it should sound hollow.

1. In a medium bowl add the warm water, salt and yeast and stir together. Let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes until the yeast bubbles up.
2. In the bowl of your mixer add all the flour, then pour the yeast mixture over the flour and mix using the dough hook of your mixer, until it's all well incorporated and the dough comes clean from the sides of the bowl. I usually do this for about 5 to 7 minutes.
3. Place the dough in a large plastic container, it needs room to rise, and put the lid on it, but do not close completely, there needs to be one corner left open to let the gases escape. Alternatively, you can use a large bowl, covered well with plastic wrap and poke a couple small holes in the top using toothpicks.
4. Let the dough rise for 2 hours.

What is the best white bread recipe?

Directions Mix the butter, sugar, and salt into the warm water. Stir in 1 tablespoon flour and the yeast (Can use 1 Tablespoon yeast in place of the packet). Wait 5 minutes; if yeast does not bubble buy new yeast. Put flour in a large bowl; stir in yeast mix. Stir thoroughly; turn onto a floured board and knead.

What are the ingredients in white bread?

White bread recipes. Dough made from white wheat flour is very stretchy and resilient, which means the baker can use it to produce many different styles and shapes, and the worldwide popularity of white bread is partly down to this characteristic. Typical ingredients include wheat flour, water, salt and yeast.

Is white bread the same as whole wheat bread?

If you prefer the taste of white bread but want the nutrients and fiber found in wheat bread, this is a good option. Nutritionally, 100 percent white whole wheat bread is the same as whole wheat bread. Whole Grain Bread: Similar to whole wheat bread, whole grain bread is made up of grains that are fully intact.

Does white bread have less gluten than wheat bread?

However, the baker may well add gluten to whole wheat flour to get an acceptable texture in the bread. If you're baking at home and not adding gluten, then whole wheat bread will have less gluten than white bread, but if you're buying from a commercial baker, there's not likely to be much difference.
